McCool Junction is 1-9 against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The McCool Junction Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Bruning-Davenport/Shickley Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully McCool Junction focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
McCool Junction suffered their closest loss yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of St. Mary's by a score of 41-39. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points McCool Junction has scored all season.
Despite the loss, McCool Junction had strong showings from McKenna Yates, who scored 15 points along with five steals, and Briann Stutzman, who scored 16 points. Stutzman continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.
McCool Junction struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as St. Mary's posted nine assists.
Meanwhile, Bruning-Davenport/Shickley came up short against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Wednesday and fell 52-39.
McCool Junction's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Bruning-Davenport/Shickley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
McCool Junction didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 49-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for McCool Junction since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
