Sanderson is 0-3 against Apex since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Sanderson Spartans will look to defend their home court against the Apex Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Sanderson is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Sanderson struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (Heritage had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sanderson fell to Heritage 49-43.
Sanderson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amyah Lynn, who scored 19 points, and Summer Haith who scored 18 points. Haith scored a full 41.9% of Sanderson's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella Puckett, who scored four points.
Sanderson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Apex came up short against Green Level on Tuesday and fell 52-43. Apex has not had much luck with Green Level recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
The losing side was boosted by Isabella Pease, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Destiny Richardson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Sanderson's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Apex, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Sanderson have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 34.8 rebounds per game. Given Sanderson's sizeable advantage in that area, Apex will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sanderson ended up a good deal behind Apex in their previous meeting back in November of 2016, losing 54-36. Will Sanderson have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
