Make it seven blowout wins for the Shadow Ridge Mustangs this season. They put the hurt on Coronado with a sharp 62-41 win on Friday. The win was familiar territory for Shadow Ridge who now have five in a row.
Shadow Ridge had a senior duo take command as Zh'mya Martin scored 18 points and Jasmine Mata scored 16 points. Mata continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaslyn Jefferson, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Coronado lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gabrielle Brooks. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Brooks pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Scarlet Lopez, who scored five points along with five steals.
Shadow Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Coronado, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shadow Ridge will square off against the Aggies at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Arbor View is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Coronado's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Blue Knights at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th.
