Mullen proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lutheran Lions, sneaking past 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Mullen got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 26-24, 33-35, 25-20, 21-25, 15-9.
Despite the defeat, Lutheran had strong showings from Kate Wilson, who had seven digs and four aces, and Madeline Miller, who had 16 digs and two aces. Wilson is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Evelyn Traylor also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Mullen's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Lutheran, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2.

The Mustangs (ranked tenth) will meet Chatfield (ranked 45th) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lutheran will face off against Lewis-Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (33 vs. 105).
