The Polson Pirates were the 51-46 winner over the Libby Loggers when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. Polson was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 42-41 to Libby. Polson just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Polson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Lichtenberg, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cason Graham, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Polson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. This was only their ninth loss (out of 11 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Polson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Libby, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-13.
Polson will head out on the road to square off against Columbia Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Polson is coming into the match with six straight losses on the road, meaning Columbia Falls will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Libby, they will play host again and welcome Whitefish, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
