LKY dropped their record down to 11-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Fairdale Bulldogs by a score of 9-8. The Saints were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 8-6.
Marshall McCartney was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Colby West was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Truman Herald, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
As for Fairdale, their record is now 6-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 1st.
Like LKY, Fairdale also got a great game from a two-way player: Cooper Cummings. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Cummings has become a key player for Fairdale: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Cummings was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Fairdale let Izzac Payero and Trey Kelly run wild. Payero got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kelly got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most RBI Payero has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Webb, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, LKY will be playing at home against Southern at 5:30 p.m. on May 6. Fairdale has already played their next contest (against Shawnee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
