The Oviedo Lions posted their biggest victory since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Winter Springs with a sharp 59-39 win. This was payback for Oviedo, who suffered a 41-40 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Oviedo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Hopkins, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hopkins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maleah Dupa, who scored 15 points along with seven steals.
Oviedo's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Winter Springs, they have fallen quite a ways from their 22-6 record last season and are now at 3-10.
Oviedo will head out on the road to square off against Lyman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lyman is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Winter Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wekiva at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wekiva presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Winter Springs in Florida (Wekiva is ranked 125th, while Winter Springs is ranked 437th).
