C East recap October 1, 2013
Waterville extended the longest winning streak in C East this week by beating Hermon, 53-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Panthers.
Old Town made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,350 from 12,321. The advance stemmed from a 30-12 victory over Madison/Carrabec last week.
Cody Whitmore provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Coyotes beat the Bulldogs.
Jake Jarvis and Whitmore gave Old Town a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Jarvis threw for 34 yards, while Whitmore ran for 149 yards. Teammate Braden Upshaw added to the ground attack by rushing for 138 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Nokomis's Dominick Erickson and Jake Winslow have proven to be a lethal combination. Erickson has thrown for 280 yards this season, while Winslow, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 14 catches for 130 yards. Whitmore from Nick Arthers' team leads the league in rushing with 358 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Foxcroft and Waterville. The Ponies comes into the matchup ranked ninth in the state, while Frank Knight's team ranks 21st.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Foxcroft takes on the Panthers. Paul Withee's team has allowed 40 points this season, while Waterville has given up 30.
