The Palmview Lobos will square off against the Mission Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Palmview barely beat Mission Veterans Memorial the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lobos blew past the Patriots 13-3 on Tuesday. The Lobos haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Abigail Cantu made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Cantu was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Yailyn Trevino and Marina Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Trevino went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Rodriguez scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most doubles Trevino has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriela Garza, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Palmview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while Mission put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Roma. The Eagles put the hurt on the Gladiators with a sharp 18-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won six matchups in a row.
Ilia Fiscal was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Breanna Longoria was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Palmview's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Mission, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Palmview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Mission struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Palmview came out on top in a nail-biter against Mission in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Lobos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
