The Cicero Prep Academy Centurions suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-44 loss at the hands of The Gregory School. While losing is never fun, Cicero Prep Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while The Gregory School is ranked 91st).
Cicero Prep Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Micah Thurman, who scored 12 points, and David Yourkoski who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
The Gregory School was led to victory by Nitai Buchler and Razin Smith. Buchler scored 13 points along with three steals and two blocks, while Smith scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Smith is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Devin Dawson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Cicero Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for The Gregory School, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cicero Prep Academy on the road again on Saturday and play against Lincoln Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. As for The Gregory School, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Desert Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Desert Christian will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
