The Washington Tigers will be playing at home against the Ashland Arrows at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Washington will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
Even though Lakewood scored an imposing 57 points on Wednesday, Washington still came out on top. Washington took their contest against the Rangers 64-57. Given Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Rangers are ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Washington relied on the efforts of Makiya Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and La Nia Moore, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. Moore is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Nicola, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Ashland unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 49-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lexington.
Despite the defeat, Ashland saw an underclassman step up: Kennedy Lacey scored 17 points along with two steals. Alex Huckleberry was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Washington is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Ashland, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Washington have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Ashland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Washington came up short against the Arrows when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 45-39. Will Washington have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
