Wilkes-Barre is 1-8 against Pittston since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wolfpack will head out on the road to face off against the Patriots at 4:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wilkes-Barre 3.4, Pittston 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wilkes-Barre barely beat Crestwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolfpack blew past the Comets 10-0 on Wednesday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
James Bottger was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Bottger was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Omar Jerez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Dalton Flowers was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Pittston put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Dallas. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Patriots have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Pittston saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Aftewicz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Pittston's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilkes-Barre, their record now sits at 12-7.
Wilkes-Barre came up short against Pittston when the teams last played back in April, falling 5-0. Can the Wolfpack avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
