Billingsley hasn't had much luck against Thorsby recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bears on Tuesday. Billingsley was the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over Keith.
Kaliyah McCary made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. McCary was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sadie Primm was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was McKenna Manning, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Billingsley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Thorsby waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Red Devils 15-2.
Like Billingsley, Thorsby also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooklyn Reeser. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, Reeser is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Allie Reeser was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Brinley Giambrone was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Thorsby pushed their record up to 7-1-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Billingsley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Billingsley's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Bears have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Thorsby, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Billingsley continue to outrun the ball?
Billingsley couldn't quite get it done against Thorsby in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 13-10. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
