The Gatewood Gators lost against the Brentwood War Eagles back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gatewood took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brentwood. While losing is never fun, Gatewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Brentwood is ranked 81st).
Faith Archer was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds for Brentwood. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Archer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cadence English, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Gatewood has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for Brentwood, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gatewood will take on Piedmont Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Piedmont Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Brentwood, they and Trinity Christian will face off at 2:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Brentwood is coming into the match with eight straight wins at home, so Trinity Christian is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
