The South Ripley Raiders suffered their closest loss yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Southwestern by a score of 50-48. South Ripley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Southwestern apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
South Ripley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reese Obendorf, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Samples, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Southwestern found their leader in underclassman Olivia Simpson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten assists. Rorie Scroggins was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
South Ripley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7. As for Southwestern, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Ripley will take on Jac-Cen-Del at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jac-Cen-Del is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. As for Southwestern, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Rising Sun at 1:30 p.m.
