Richland faced Oakes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Oakes took their match against Richland on Saturday by a conclusive 30-6 score. The lopsided score is just par for the course this season for Oakes, who can brag about eight blowout wins.
After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Oakes offense stepped up its game and put 15 points on the board in the second quarter. Richland countered with 6 points, leaving the score at 15-6 going into the half. The other side of the ball continued to do well for Oakes in the second half and held Richland to 0 points.
Oakes found their leader in underclassman sophomore Garret Meehl, who rushed for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Meehl's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past five games. Junior Logan Sell also deserves a shout-out for his two TDs.
The victory was the 5th in a row for Oakes raised their record to 9-1. The loss dropped Richland's record to 6-2.
