The Highland Park Scots will head out on the road to face off against the Lawrence Free State Firebirds at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
After a string of four wins, Highland Park's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eudora. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Highland Park has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Highland Park saw an underclassman step up: Pearmella Carter scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Carter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of De'asia Sanders, who scored 16 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Free State's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sumner Academy.
Highland Park's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-1. As for Lawrence Free State, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Highland Park came up short against Lawrence Free State in their previous meeting back in January of 2017, falling 58-50. Can Highland Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
