Jefferson hasn't had much luck against Burges recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Silver Foxes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Jefferson's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
Jefferson had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Irvin on Friday. The Silver Foxes were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over the Rockets. Considering the Silver Foxes have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jefferson got a massive performance out of Helen Osornio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Osornio has posted over her last 11 matchups. Melanie Hennigan was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .696. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Burges didn't have quite enough to beat Ysleta on Friday and fell 5-4.
Burges saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelina Alvarez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run. Another was Antonella Ulloa, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Jefferson's win bumped their record up to 15-1-1. As for Burges, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Burges' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jefferson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Burges, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Jefferson's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Jefferson might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Burges when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Silver Foxes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
