Softball Recap: Summerfield Wins Going Away Against Junction City

Summerfield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Junction City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Summerfield blew past Junction City 13-4 on Friday. Considering the Rebels have won five games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Melanie Salmon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Salmon was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ella Adkins was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Adkins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Aniston Cupp was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Summerfield's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Junction City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summerfield will host North Webster at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Junction City, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Morris at 12:00 p.m.
