Greenville (Ala.) took the lead for good when it threw a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Homewood (Ala.) 27-24 on Saturday.
The Patriots pulled ahead on a rushing touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 10-7. The Tigers took the lead for good with a passing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Greenville still trailed by 10 points going into the fourth quarter. But 20 points in the fourth helped GHS pull out the victory.
The loss came as a surprise for Homewood, which entered the game ranked No. 16 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Alabama, while the Tigers were ranked No. 132.
Luke Porter made a difference for HHS. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to seven on the year.
The loss comes after Homewood defeated Russell 28-21 last week. With the win Greenville extended its winning streak to three games.
