Two dominant signal callers in Jordan Reaves and Austin Carlisle are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lamar Texans will face off against the Ridge Point Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Lamar sitting on 11 straight victories and Ridge Point on nine.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lamar had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 63-0 win over Jersey Village at home. Fans of Lamar have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Lamar's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Reaves, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaseston Guidry, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even though Tompkins scored an imposing 44 points on Friday, Ridge Point still came out on top. Ridge Point managed a 49-44 victory over Tompkins. Given Ridge Point's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Tompkins is ranked 181st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carlisle got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown. Ashton Bethel-roman was another key contributor, picking up 158 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Lamar's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 50 points. As for Ridge Point, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Lamar and Ridge Point have no problem gaining yardage. Lamar has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 461.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Ridge Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging 411.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
