The Altamont Indians had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 68-53 victory over Vandalia. Given Altamont's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Vandalia is ranked 307th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Altamont had a senior duo take command as Kaidyn Miller scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals and Dillan Elam scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Miller has scored at least 25% of Altamont's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Miller, who scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Altamont's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Vandalia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Altamont will head out on the road to face off against Newton at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Vandalia won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Meridian at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Hopefully Meridian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Saturday.
