Durant moved up to 36 from 63 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 7A District 8. The Cougars were able to make the jump by beating Wharton 13-12.
Durant extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Wildcats, 13-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for Mike Gottman's team.
Brandon's dynamic duo of Brandon Jones and Jonny Guyton proved tough for Sickles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jones threw for 33 yards and Guyton had 14 yards receiving. Jaleik Bogle helped Brandon's passing attack out by catching two balls for seven yards.
Clint Carnell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 127 yards as Newsome lost to the Gryphons. Teammate Will Worth added to the ground attack by rushing for 120 yards.
Plant City's Nick Rodriguez and Tavares Chase have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 7A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Rodriguez has thrown for 609 yards this season, while Chase, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has seven catches for 184 yards. Worth from the Wolves leads the league in rushing with 517 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Durant takes on second place Plant City. The Cougars topped Wharton last week, while the Raiders.
