The Lake Minneola Hawks and the Lakeland Dreadnaughts squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Lake Minneola Hawks had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Dreadnaughts on the road and fell 77-48. Lake Minneola's loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Lake Minneola's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dane Thompkins, who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Thompkins has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. D?nari Adams also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
D'marius Rucker was a one-man wrecking crew for Lakeland as he rushed for 278 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 17.4 yards per carry. Carlos Mitchell was another major influence, as he rushed for 115 yards and ran in a TD.
Lake Minneola's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Lakeland, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Lake Minneola does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lakeland will head out on the road to face off against Buchholz at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Buchholz is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
