Leading Whitney Young to victory were Kiaya Johnson and Destiny Jackson. Johnson scored 18 points along with five assists and two steals, while Jackson scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Jackson, who scored seven points.
Link Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Whitney Young, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Link Academy will take on Hickman at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Whitney Young won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lincoln Park at 5:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Lincoln Park will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 529th, while Whitney Young is ranked 19th).
