Softball Recap: Howe Comes Up Short

Howe blew Pottsboro out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Pottsboro got their revenge. Howe fell just short of Pottsboro by a score of 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Riley McCollum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mya Burt was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Howe's loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Pottsboro, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Howe will take on S & S Consolidated at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. S & S Consolidated will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Howe surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pottsboro, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Pottsboro Cardinals face off against Leonard Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leonard will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
