The Lafayette Lions will take on the Midland Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Lafayette got the win against Highland Baptist Christian by a conclusive 17-2.
Lauren Williams looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Morgan, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Heidi Ewing was another key player, scoring four runs while going 2-for-3.
Lafayette hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 11-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Midland made easy work of Hathaway on Friday and carried off a 20-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won five in a row.
Gracie Meyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meyer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ainsley Staffford was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Credeur, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Lafayette has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Midland, their victory bumped their record up to 9-14.
Midland's pitching crew better be locked in on Monday. Lafayette hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Midland, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Lafayette in the park?
