Oak Park lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Ventura, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. Oak Park was the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Ventura on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Eagles have posted since April 6, 2024.
Shaila Esparza was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that she scored this season. Another player making a difference was Kirthi Paramasivan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Oak Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ventura only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Sierra Canyon had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past Poly 17-1.
Jael Long made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Long was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Sierra Canyon let Nylah Melendez and Nina Peyton-Johnson run wild. Melendez scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Peyton-Johnson went 2-for-5 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave Peyton-Johnson a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Areliz, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.
The win got Oak Park back to even at 2-2. As for Sierra Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
