The Little Miami Panthers will take on the Colerain Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Little Miami has three straight wins, Colerain has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Little Miami beats Colerain with seven runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Panthers walked away with a 7-4 victory over Sycamore on Friday.
Dominic Mahon looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Eli Schoellman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Adam Trickey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Colerain fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Edgewood on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-7 to the Cougars, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While the Cardinals didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 4-0 in the first period.
Colerain saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Dario Sanchez Tejada, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Little Miami pushed their record up to 20-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Colerain, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
Little Miami suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Colerain when the teams last played back in April of 2016. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
