Whitney Young and Taft are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Dolphins will take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Whitney Young sitting on four straight wins and Taft on three.
Last Friday, Whitney Young got the win against Evanston by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Dolphins, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Liani Delgado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Claire Swanborn was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Itzel Jaime was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Taft put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Lincoln Park. The Eagles put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Eagles are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fifth contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Michaela Power was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haley Eccarius, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Morgan Eccarius, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Taft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Whitney Young pushed their record up to 6-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Taft, their record is now 7-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whitney Young hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Taft struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitney Young took their win against Taft in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Dolphins repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
