The Tabb Tigers struggled with threes on Friday (the Lafayette Rams had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Tabb lost to Lafayette at home by a decisive 63-49 margin. While losing is never fun, Tabb can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Lafayette is ranked 51st).
Tabb's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Marbra, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Siegel, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
Even though they lost, Tabb were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Lafayette's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jarquez Garrett, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. The game was Garrett's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Wayne Santos Jr was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Tabb has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Lafayette, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tabb has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Warhill at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Warhill is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Lafayette, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Grafton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
