Summit took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the New Providence Pioneers 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Hilltoppers in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won six in a row.
Charlotte Yarnall made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Yarnall was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Hannah Jacobson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Kate Shin was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Providence only posted an OBP of .355.
Looking ahead, Summit will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Oak Knoll at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Providence, they will take on Union Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
