Basketball Recap: Heath Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Heath Bulldogs opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-37 defeat to the Central Crossing Comets.

Despite the loss, Heath still got an impressive performance from Peyton Del Cecato, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. Del Cecato is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Kailyn Holmberg was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Heath smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Savannah Hamilton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Central Crossing, going 10 of 16 on her way to 25 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That's the most points Hamilton has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordelia Watkins, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Heath's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Central Crossing, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

The future could be bright for both Heath and Central Crossing: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Heath will try to hand Licking Valley their eighth-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Central Crossing will try to hand Hilliard Davidson their third-straight loss when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
