Smithfield has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Poquoson Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smithfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Poquoson is ranked 159th).
Smithfield suffered their biggest defeat since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 44-22 walloping at the hands of Warhill. Smithfield has not had much luck with Warhill recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Poquoson posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They blew past York, posting a 63-29 victory at home. The victory was just what Poquoson needed coming off of a 64-39 loss in their prior matchup.
Smithfield dropped their record down to 2-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.7 points per game. As for Poquoson, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Smithfield came up short against Poquoson when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 38-31. Can Smithfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
