The Bonanza Bengals and the Valley Vikings, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bonanza is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.4 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Bonanza was able to grind out a solid win over Clark, taking the game 6-2. The six-run effort marked the Bengals' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Ayla Murphy was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Murphy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Karlee Mitok and Emily Hodsdon did most of the damage at the plate: Mitok went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run, while Hodsdon went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Arianna Algarate also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Valley's offense. They came up short against Spring Valley last Thursday, falling 16-0. The Vikings have struggled against the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Bonanza is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything went Bonanza's way against Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, as Bonanza made off with a 17-5 win. Will the Bengals repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
