The Saint Stephen's Episcopal Falcons will head out to take on the Seffner Christian Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Saint Stephen's Episcopal is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Saint Stephen's Episcopal blew Shorecrest Prep out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Shorecrest Prep got their revenge. The Falcons fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 5-3. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Saint Stephen's Episcopal saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylan Goar, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Seffner Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Barons with a sharp 14-0 win. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Crusaders this season.
Allison Baston was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That hit was her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Seffner Christian let Tenley Newman and Isabella Biase run wild. Newman scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Biase scored four runs while going 2-for-3. Those four runs gave Biase a new career-high. Kyla Slauter also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Seffner Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Seffner Christian's record is now 8-6. As for Saint Stephen's Episcopal, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Saint Stephen's Episcopal has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Seffner Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Saint Stephen's Episcopal came out on top in a nail-biter against Seffner Christian in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
