Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Manti's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Emery, Manti was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Carbon Dinos with a sharp 10-3 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Lane Cox made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Manti is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Cox was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

Cox wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kellen Lund, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Lund has become a key player for Manti: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 3-7 otherwise. Porter Daniels also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Manti was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Manti has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Carbon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

Coming up, Manti will welcome Canyon View at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Templars surely won't give up without a fight. Carbon will be paying especially close attention to Manti's matchup: after Manti faces off against Canyon View, they'll take on Carbon again at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
