This season hasn't been kind to the Pembroke Hill Raiders, who are still winless after their eighth game. They lost to Blue Valley Southwest on the road by a decisive 52-37 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Pembroke Hill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 413th in Missouri, while Blue Valley Southwest is ranked 203rd in Kansas).
Blue Valley Southwest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Unruh, who scored 17 points along with three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Payne, who scored 14 points.
Pembroke Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Blue Valley Southwest, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Pembroke Hill will head out on the road to face off against Pleasant Hill on Monday. The timing is sure in Pleasant Hill's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Pembroke Hill has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. Blue Valley Southwest will take on St. James Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully St. James Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday.
