The Lee Park Prep Knights will venture away from home to take on the Gaston Christian Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Knights fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Monday's season opener. They walked away with a 10-5 win over Central Academy on Monday.
Ansley Green made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Green was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Nevaeh Alexander was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Lee Park Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Academy only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Gaston Christian hadn't done well against Hickory Grove Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Gaston Christian came out on top against Hickory Grove Christian by a score of 10-6.
Like Lee Park Prep, Gaston Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Lana Hanson. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Hanson was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenedy Miller, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Marleigh Huskins was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Lee Park Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Gaston Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 8-4. Will Lee Park Prep repeat their success, or does Gaston Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
