1A District 7 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Union County extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 7 this week by beating Fort White, 28-21. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Chiefland moved up to 261 from 314 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 34-0 win over Crescent City helped the Indians improve their standing.
Dixie County's dynamic duo of Shaquille Mitchem and Cody Mitchell proved tough for Hamilton County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mitchem threw for 86 yards and one touchdown and Mitchell had 60 yards receiving. DJ Little helped Dixie County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 15 yards.
Ra'kheem Hoyt was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 198 yards on 22 carries as Newberry bested the Trojans. Tray Presley also contributed to the rushing game with 67 yards on the ground.
Dixie County's Mitchem and Little have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A District 7 in both passing and receiving yards. Mitchem has thrown for 475 yards this season, while Little has seven catches for 123 yards. Chiefland's Alphonso Timmons leads the league in rushing yards with 689.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Union County takes on second place Dixie County. Union County bested the Indians last week, while Brent Wilkerson's team defeated Hamilton County.
Aaron Richardson's team took down the Raiders 34-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Timmons ran for 160 yards in the win.
