The Fairfax Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Woodson Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fairfax focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-35, which was the final score in Fairfax's tilt against the Wolverines.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cameron Love, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronier Peters, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Woodson escaped with a win on Thursday against the Spartans by the margin of a single free throw, 41-40. Given Woodson's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Spartans are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Woodson found their leader in underclassman Kaylen Chilton, who scored 13 points. Sean Donovan was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks.
Fairfax's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7. As for Woodson, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-6.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Fairfax have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Woodson struggles in that department as they've made 42.5% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fairfax skirted past the Cavaliers 40-37 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfax since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
