The United Golden Eagles entered their tilt with the Brookfield Warriors with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. United came out on top against Brookfield by a score of 24-14 on Friday. For United, this counts as revenge for the 26-0 defeat Brookfield walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2021.
Despite the defeat, Brookfield saw an underclassman step up: Rico Smith rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Smith was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.
United's victory was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Leetonia and 2-8 East Palestine (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.7% over those games). As for Brookfield, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
United's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Cuyahoga Heights at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Cuyahoga Heights is ranked 340th, while United is ranked 365th). Brookfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
