After both having extra time off, the Greenbrier West Cavaliers and the Midland Trail Patriots will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Greenbrier West is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Greenbrier West was fully in charge, breezing past Richwood 82-49 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Greenbrier West has posted against Richwood since April 20, 2021.
Meanwhile, Midland Trail was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Friday as they fell 59-54 to Nicholas County. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Midland Trail has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Midland Trail saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Justin Cooper, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Eli Campbell, who scored 17 points along with five assists.
Greenbrier West now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Midland Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Greenbrier West couldn't quite finish off Midland Trail in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 64-62. Thankfully for Greenbrier West, Matthew Light (who scored 17 points along with two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
