Baseball Recap: Lake Gibson Drops Season-High Score on Tenoroc

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Gibson). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tenoroc Titans a 27-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Braves have beaten the Titans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Titans has come to flipping the script.

Mark Simpson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has become a key player for Lake Gibson: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 1-7 otherwise. Simpson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, Gavin Bryant was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Dalton Cone was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Lake Gibson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.

Lake Gibson pushed their record up to 3-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tenoroc, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Lake Gibson wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-1 loss against Pasco on the 12th. As for Tenoroc, they have also already played their next game, a 29-0 defeat against Riverview on the 13th.
