Covenant Christian is 9-1 against the Panthers since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Covenant Christian Cougars are on the road again and plays the Pantego Christian Panthers at 6:15 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Covenant Christian is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Panthers in Texas (the Cougars are ranked 160th, while the Panthers are ranked 723rd).
Last Friday, Covenant Christian came up short against the Lions and fell 41-31. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Covenant Christian has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Pantego Christian had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 54-45 win over Midland Classical Academy on Saturday. The victory was just what Pantego Christian needed coming off of a 83-43 defeat in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pantego Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aj Brooks, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Brooks has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jamerson Green, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Covenant Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Pantego Christian, the win got them back to even at 15-15.
Everything went Covenant Christian's way against the Panthers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the Cougars made off with a 67-47 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Covenant Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
