Bishop McCort and Westmont Hilltop are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Crushers are taking a road trip to square off against the Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop McCort is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Bishop McCort is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Central Cambria on Monday. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 1-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Crushers were not able to get on the board.
Lariah Myers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
Meanwhile, Westmont Hilltop gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Penn Cambria with a sharp 16-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Hilltoppers, who have now won five matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Bella Kist and Cali Lynch did most of the damage at the plate: Kist scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Lynch went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Kist also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Lamya Stevens was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Westmont Hilltop pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Bishop McCort, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bishop McCort has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Westmont Hilltop struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bishop McCort was able to grind out a solid victory over Westmont Hilltop in their previous matchup on Saturday, winning 11-8. Will the Crushers repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
