The Howells-Dodge Jaguars will venture away from home to square off against the Riverside Chargers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Howells-Dodge is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
If Howells-Dodge beats Riverside with 44 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Everything went the Jaguars' way against Fullerton on Friday as they made off with a 44-20 win. The Jaguars' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Hunter Luther continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 163 yards and three TDs on only six carries. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 0.5 sacks and making two total tackles (1.0 for loss). Dane Meyer was in the mix too, providing Howells-Dodge with two scores.
Howells-Dodge's run defense was locked in: Fullerton could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. While six picked up at least two total tackles, Luther stood above the rest. He rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Howells-Dodge didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged ten.
Meanwhile, Riverside fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Osceola on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 36-30 to the Bulldogs. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riverside didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brady Carraher and Landyn Carraher.
Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Howells-Dodge, their record now sits at 5-0.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Howells-Dodge has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Riverside, though, as they've been averaging only 86.8 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Howells-Dodge suffered a grim 44-20 defeat to Riverside in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
