Plainfield and Decatur Central are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Quakers will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Plainfield has 12 straight victories, Decatur Central has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Plainfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Noblesville, who was ranked tenth at the time (Plainfield was ranked third). The Quakers never let the Millers get on the board and left with a 5-0 win on Saturday. Give the Quakers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Sidney Parks tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kylie Fish was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Maci Hanlin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Decatur Central came up short against Lafayette Jefferson on Saturday and fell 9-6.
Kaylynn Napier stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Charlie Baldwin, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Plainfield pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Decatur Central, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Decatur Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Plainfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Decatur Central, though, as they've been averaging only 2.5 strikeouts. Will Plainfield keep running through batters, or will the Hawks buck the trend?
Plainfield took their victory against Decatur Central when the teams last played on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Quakers repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
