The Churchill County Greenwave's's six-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Spring Creek and snuck past 70-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Churchill County to victory were Braden Sorensen and Brady Alves. Sorensen scored 17 points, while Alves scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Calin Anderson, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Spring Creek lost, one person who can't be blamed is Darren Bylund. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Bylund's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Tayden Francis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Even though they lost, Spring Creek were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Churchill County only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Churchill County's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Spring Creek, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Churchill County will face off against Lowry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Lowry is ranked 44th, while Churchill County is ranked 51st). Spring Creek will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Dayton at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Dayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
