The West Valley Mustangs came into Thursday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 64-57 win over San Jacinto on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading West Valley to victory were Makaio Black and Elijah Alexander. Black dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Alexander scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Alexander hasn't dropped below three steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Ramirez, who scored nine points.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Omar Garcia, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Garcia continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Stephen Castleberry, who scored 14 points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
West Valley's victory bumped their record up to 9-14. As for San Jacinto, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Valley will take on the Panthers at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for San Jacinto, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m.
